Fat pad impingement is a condition where the knee joint presents pain because of inflammation around the aptly named fat pad. It is exactly what it sounds like: a pad of fat behind the kneecap and in between where the femur "connects" to the tibia. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it.
